The Woven Factory

Located just outside of Roanoke this woven fabrics factory is part of a private company which employs almost 1,000 people throughout the Southeast region and has textile roots which date back to the 1920s. They are expert manufacturers of woven and non-woven materials for a variety of technical industries, such as medical and aerospace, with a strong emphasis on research & development. We thought this expertise and their American roots make them the perfect partner to help us create the custom woven activewear fabrics being used in our athletic shorts, and later our pants and outerwear.

How It’s Done

Weaving is the oldest form of making fabrics. Woven fabrics are created by the interlacement of yarn that runs the length of the fabric (the warp) with yarn that runs the width of the fabric (the weft) using advanced machinery called looms. The warp threads are held in place while filling threads are woven through them. Fabric weaving is thought to be an art and this facility has hundreds of state of the art looms and related machinery.
